You could put a front door (entry door) knob in place of the knob you have now. Just be sure and check the thickness of your bedroom door to be sure the new knob is compatible.
Well, from just your question, I was going to send you to a belting supplier, but from the detail - buy the right size replacement inner tube for a small bicycle wheels (if you don't want to connect end) and cut it length wise next to the stem, so you get a 3-6 wide flat doughnut piece with a stem part way along. You will be able to get a nice flat piece from the rest of the tube. If you don't mind gluing the ends with rubber cement, any old flat bike (or car) tube will do. I use them to make giant rubber bands for binding plaster casting molds and some glue jobs.
