Yes, as the other poster suggests, if the source is from heating gas you can call the power company and they will be bound to check it. They don't want the possible liability of a bunch of people getting ill or worse from a faulty hookup.

It's a great idea to make a calendar, but pastel colors might be too girly for him. Maybe you should try darker or brighter colors of papers instead of pastel. Your ideas for the caldendar are good. You may even try animated pictures for goofy pictures. You can cut bodies of animated cartoons and put your faces on them. You can also do pictures of special memories between the two of you for each month.
The gas company needs to come check for a leak. Those plug in detectors actually do work well.
