can i just connect a regular electrical wire on there ?
You can probably replace the head with a three-prong grounded plug, but if you need more wire, I'm sure it has to be more heavy duty than say a regular wire on a lamp or small appliance.
All you need is the head. (part w/ prongs) If you are not sure how go to your local hardware, Home Depot or Lowe's stores they can tell you exactly how to do it. (My local True Value hardware store did it for me on a lamp.)
My husband has put new heads on cords in the past. Find someone who is handy and they will be able replace it for you.
Buy a new plug. Wire it to the cord with the correct polarity. Spicing a cord is a violation of the electric code. I don't care what kind of tape the make believe electrician tells you to use.
Generally a microwave has a grounded, three prong plug. I assume you are trying to connect a new plug to the severed cord. If this is the case the green or bare wire goes to the center, round prong that usually has a green screw as well. The black wire goes to the smaller blade prong that usually has a gold screw and the white wire goes to the larger blade prong that has a silver screw. Again good luck. If you are trying to attach a cord that came from another appliance, be careful that you use a cord that has as big or bigger wires than the origional cord had. Also be very sure that you get all the wires connected to their same colors. Don't use any kind of tape except electrical tape, and it might be a good idea to use a crimped solderless connector to make sure you have a good connection. Then tape all the connections separately, and then tape them all together. Sorry to hear you lost your plug so soon, may I guess that you let the cord trail and it got caught in a door?
