So i have a grill that my old neighbor gave me but i've never used it.it's a Charcoal grill and the rack has some rust on it from the time she used it,how can i get this off? or should i buy another one?

The way I do it is like the link FISH STEELHEAD provided for the following reasons: 1It's much quicker 2No need to gut and scrub 3No need to scale it 4It removes 95% of the bones 5When done you have a nice chunk of meat that you just rinse off and it's ready for the pan - or- 6Its much easier to freeze due to the flexibility and the shape of the fillet! I have been doing this for many years, I even got and electric fillet knife that runs on 12 volts, I can clean fish at camp, or on the boat by hooking the knife up to a truck or boat batteryOnce Fillets are ready I bag them in a Freezer bag and put on IceIf more than one species are caught I keep them seperate in different bags, the bags have a place to write on them so I will know if it's bass, walley, catfish or whatever.
Hi Chemically, the rust won`t hurt youTake a wire brush, or similar, and remove any and all of the loose rust particles from the grateJust dropping the grate flat on some concrete will make this job easier, but if the grate is greasy, it can stain the concreteAfter all the really loose rust is removed, just start the fire like you are going to cookWith the grill in place and heated, again brush or scrape the cooking surface of the grateA long handled brass grill brush works fine, or some people have suggested wadded up aluminum foil, held with tongsNext, you need to coat the grate with some sort of fatI have a pump up sprayer that I useDONT use aerosol over the fireYou can use a paper towel, soaked with oil, held by the tongsAfter the oil,fat has cooked in (burnt off?), go ahead and cookRust is one of the reasons that I don`t clean the grates very muchThe fat from the previous cook keeps the grates from rusting When it is time to replace your grates, or just season the grates from the start and keep `em coated with grease and or oilHope this helpsL.
