I have a small leak under the bath at the hot water copper pipe. It is small but I do not like to leaveit as in first floor flat. A plummer came and said he had hoped he had fixed it and that it was verydifficult to get at. However it is still a small leak. Would the bath have to be taken out to fix it orsomething big like that, which I would not want of course. The bathroom basin is very near the bathso that makes it harder to get at the pipe maybe. Am I going to have a big problem here. Any plummers to advise me please. Most grateful. Thanks so much. I live in Shefford Bedfordshire. Is there a brillant plummer there or joke a very slim one who is agile and can slide under a difficultarea e.g. my difficult to get at pipes under bath.
did you install it right? did you disconnect the battery to reset the comp?
Without good pictures it is hard to asses. Most plumbing are soldered. Shut off the water supply and cut out the offending section. They do sell fittings that do not require any soldering. Many of those stick on glues do not really work like they advertise, it has to be in pristine condition for one.
Without being able to see it it is impossible to say how it can be fixed but fair to say almost all plumbing under a bath is difficult to access even on a new installation, you need to be super slim and double jointed. Is it actually a pipe leak as against the connection to the taps which is more common as the fibre washers do give up sometimes. If is close to the taps it may be possible to cut out a section and replace with either a flexible hose or a length of plastic pipework with push fit fittings. It may be worth getting back the original plumber as he failed to complete the job he charged you for.
helen, i'm struggling with your question. if it's impossible to get at, how do you know that's where the leak is at? but let's say it is the hot water line inside the wall that is leaking, NO, the bathtub stays put. what we will do is cut into the drywall from an adjoining wall to gain access to the plumbing. does that make sense to you? then, after the leak in the wall is fixed, we either patch the drywall OR put a cover access plate over the hole. if you are certain you have a leak inside the wall, it's important you have it repaired asap. leaks can lead to mold. good luck to you helen. about $ 200.00, but that is soooo much better than the alternative! GET ON IT NOW! jim another thing is, sometimes you can simply pull the stems off the tub/shower wall and have enough access to repair any leaks. worst cast, we have to cut into an adjoining wall.
