Question:

I have braces, and brackets keep breaking.(explanation below)?

I don't chew a lot of gum, if I do it's for a short time. i don't eat any hard foods. i normally eat stuff like rice, chips, noodles, pasta, crisps(sometimes) and my bracket becomes loose and eventually falls out into my mouth so I just take it out and put it into a tissue. it's happened like 3 times now. the first time it was the bracket right at the back on my top set of teeth, and the 2nd time it was the same one and now the third time it's my bottom set of teeth right at the back. the orthodontist glues it very weirdly, so maybe it's that? I don't know. they keep telling to be careful and they keep shouting at me. and threatning me that they'll take my braces off. but it's not my fault. what should I do?

Answer:

Just keep taking it back to your orthodontist until he or she can 'get it right'.
When brackets keep coming off it is rarely the dentist's fault but yours. It's not only what you eat that affects it but how you chew. Gum, even sometimes is a no-no, chips are a no-no, and anything that is hard to chew or is chewy is a no-no. I am sure you were given a list of foods to avoid. You need to eat slowly and try to keep the food on the tops of your teeth instead of all over when you chew. Anything that is capable of exerting a shearing force on your brackets will cause them to break off. You just need to learn to eat in a way that does not pop your brackets off.
They can't threaten you, since you ARE paying for it. Just tell them that you are following all the instructions and it keeps happening.
