Question:

I just got braces and one bracket fell off! What to do?

I only got braces yesterday evening, on the upper jaw, and the bracket at the corner has fallen off. I'm gonna contact my orthodontist. btw One of them feels loose. Also when I try to bite(on anything) it hurts a lot. I've taken some Paracetamol. Any advice?

Answer:

It's natural for it to hurt when you bite, because your teeth are being steadily pulled to a new position and are thus slightly (extremely) tender. As for your lost bracket, make an appointment with your orthodontist as soon as possible to have it replaced and express your concerns about your loose bracket (braces can't fix your teeth if they aren't attached to them, and the longer the bracket is unattached the longer you will have to wear braces). Also, make sure your heed their warnings about not eating crunchy foods. I popped a bracket loose 2 days after I got my braces by biting into a super hard cookie. Oh, and if the wire is sticking out and slicing open your cheek, cover it with a gob of the wax they give you until you can get it fixed.
If you call first thing in the morning and tell them pieces are falling off, they will get you right in. Once there, they will fix the one that fell off and check the others to make sure they are secure. There's not really anything to do until you see your orthodontist.
Go to the orthodontist.
