Question:

I need help firing up my bryant boiler?

The boiler is about 20 years old. I turn on the gas and power and turn up the thermostat, the pump and damper blower come on but I get no ignition spark. how long should it take to spark up and what should I test first - it worked fine last season.

Answer:

It should purge (sends air through the burner to clean any excess gas, that maybe left from the last fire) after you turn it on before it looks for a spark. See it there is a small rod going into the front (by the burner). Flame Senser (looks for the spark, or ignition). If that is hanging or missing it will shut down right away then re-purge. If it's not that it could be a faultly gas valve, not opening up when the boiler calls for heat. Good Luck!!
