So basically I'm building a PC soon and I want to go down the AMD path. I'm picking up the new HD 7970, 12GB RAM, etc. What I need help with is the CPU, are the bulldozers the way to go, or Phenom? I'm quite clueless when it comes to this so if someone could give me a lot of info into this that would be ******* great.
Go for the phenom way. Do not forget to get A powerful SMPS to support the system configurations.
Phenom II X4 are still the best gaming processors from AMD, but the probability that AMD will release a new processor for AM3+ socket later that will be better is kind of high. As of right now though, Phenom II X4 980 is still the best AMD processor for gaming. Bulldozer was a flop in that regard.
I would say go with the phenom ll x4/6 series ,but looking at some of your specs, i would recommend the amd fx 8150 bulldozer series, the reason i say this is the amd graphic card is new also the bulldozer just came out , they would be more compatible to each than the phenom ll series, you also would find in cpu benchmark checks the fx 8150 is better in performance than the pnenom ll series
Hey Hugh! I can't answer your question comfortably as I have no idea what your intent is for your new build! However, I suggest you read this review's conclusion (read the whole review if you can) - it parrots what too many reviews have stated; the Bulldozer is a disappointment and may not shine until Opteron arrives. I'd stick with a Phenom II (I have the 1050t) if Intel is not your thing. You'll get better benchmarks for the money in mainstream uses and less GPU requirements. However, with the HD7970 I'd go Sandy Bridge, personally, if you have the money...it's the superior gaming CPU. Hope this helps a bit. Seriously, 12 gigs of RAM sounds more like an Intel setup to me :) Regards, Jay
