Question:

i need to know how to put fluid in an old gas station hoist?

I have an old in ground gas station hoist and i need to know how to put fluid in it

Answer:

Most fill right from the top through a pipe plug which you take out. With the hoist down open the plug and meausre with a tape measure where the fluid is. Fill until it is 8 inches below the plug you took out, reinstall plug and lift. Use a good quality hydraulic oil or truck hoist oil. This is for Ford-Smith, and Joyce products, others may vary a litlle.
Some were on the side should be eather a small bolt or a allen screw. It should be marked OIL
usually there is a pipe plug close to the piston in the ground/open it up with lift in down position and add hydraulic fluid /try a qt first and check/put plug back in before using lift/if it needs more add and do it slow
You aren't likely to get an answer without giving the manufacturer and model number of the hoist. Once you have that information, you might try asking again, but next time don't ask in Cars Transportation Maintenance Repairs
On the ones I've seen the port is 1/2 way up the side of the piston. Sometimes it's a screw that you have to remove, other times it's just a little rubber stopper that doesn't look like much. If you do manage to find it, just fill it up until the fluid leaks out of the port. I would stay away from anything at the base of the piston. These are usually not good to tamper with
