I need to replace the discharge pipe on my sump pump. Is this difficult?

Answer:

The job is fairly easy as long as you have a pipe wrench. and basic plumbing skills, If its made of metal I would replace with PVC its very inexpensive and lasts longer
that black thing in the middle is a check valve that holds water from going back into the sump area. when you unscrew it, there is water standing in the pipe that will come gushing out. be ready.
not at all. Odds are it's either PVC or copper piping. If it's PVC, it's just a matter of unscrewing the pipe from the base and cutting it with a saw and replacing what you need. If you have copper, you would unscrew it and take the whole thing out. You can replace it with PVC, which is much easier to work with (gluing joints rather than having to sweat the pipes together). Go to any ACE hardware or home depot and they can explain it to you. Just make sure you draw a diagram for yourself so you know what you need and how much pipe. Save on that gas and not having to drive back and forth 12 times ;-)
