I find that at my house (with no central AC) that the window AC that is in the window at the other end of the house keeps the rest of the house pretty cool, but since my door faces away from the direction of the air, I put a large fan in my doorway to help blow in the cool airOther than that, I just aim the fan my direction, and eventually it will help me cool offI've also heard that having your window slightly open with the door open will help pull cool air towards you, although this doesn't seem to help me very muchBest advice? if you have a ac unit in a window in your home, keep it turned on even if the room it is in gets coldKeep it on until the whole house is cool and then switch it to low when its cool or when you are gone, but don't turn it offIt takes a lot longer to cool a house off than it does to keep it coolDoing this is also supposed to help keep your electricity bill lower since the unit theoretically doesn't have to work as hardThis also applies to central AC as wellA guy at out local power company told me that a couple of months ago :-) Good luckHeat sucks
You could research whether it takes more energy to make new products from various raw materials or whether it takes more energy to make them from recycled materials (i.eglass, paper, aluminum, etc.).
