Question:

i placed a sandwich in a bag that had aluminum foil inside the microwave the microwave sparked a little?

and the bag started to burn but i opened the microwave right awayi think the microwave is still working ok i wonder if i burn out anything inside of the microwave? it still seems to be heating up food and liquids the light is still functioning and the timer is still good so maybe i did not wreck anything inside the microwave.

Answer:

Yes, I use foil in my electric oven all the timeBeats washing the baking dish!
I don't think there's a safety issueFoil won't melt or burn in the ovenThe worst case is if you don't do a good job making the container and the cake batter spills into the oven, you may get some smoke.
It's safe, but might not actually workThe aluminum foil is really thin, and might not hold up unless you use several layersI'd say just run to the grocery store and get a cheap aluminum one if you canThey're sturdier than what you could craft at homeYou might have other things that you can bake it in, like something made of pyrex or a casserole dishIt wouldn't be the same shape, but might still work.
I used to bake fish and veggies in aluminium foil by doubling up the foil layers and making a sealed pocketI'm not sure but it may work for cakes if you use enough foil so that the sides don't give way and make sure the batter can't seep out from the seamsIt won't look as pretty as using a cake pan and it may stick a bit moreGood luck!
Aluminum reflects microwaves instead of being absorbedTht is why water and food heat upThey take that microwave energy and absorb the wave energy and convert it to heat In your case, the microwave just bounced off the aluminum and changed to a different wavelength which showed up as sparksIt didn't hurt the mircrowave (unless the waves got sent directly back to the generator, but sounds like it didn't) So don't worry, it is fine, millions of people have done what you have done
