Question:

If a palm tree touches copper will it die?

I have a palm tree that I planted next to a building with copper cladding on the outside face of wall. If the palm fronds touch the copper will the palm die? BTW the palm is a Canary Island date palm (Phoenix canariensis). Hope to hear from an arborist but welcome backyard gardeners as well.Thanks.

Answer:

Copper will have no effect on your palm tree. I have never heard of copper affecting large plant or tree. Be aware that a canary island palm tree gets very large on maturity and you may not want it next to a building where it could rub on the building.
