If a sheet of plastic covers half the surface of the water in the tank, would the change increase, leave unchanged or decrease the amount of water evaporated?
Evaporation is the removal of surface molecules. It these aren't free to move then there can be no evaporation.
Covering the surface of the water prevents evaporation on that portion.
