Im trying to make something out of aluminum, what is the best way to melt and shape it?
You can melt aluminum at around 1200F in a cast iron potThat may not be the best ,but it will do for a one-time back yard foundryUsing a (wooden) molding pattern of the desired shape, you can make a half mold casting impression into compressed sand mixed wilh some mollases as a binderThis technique gets into foundry technology using a two-part mold box if you want to make a whole castingOr you could make a pattern of wax and bury it to do a full mold.
