Answer:

If your school owns the opera house, it seems odd that your class would be responsible for the damage unless the school's insurance has a very high deductibleWhich may surely be the case, many buildings (homes, offices, etc) have a deductible of 10% of their valueAs a member of the student council, why not make an appointment with the school administrator and ask him or her if there's some other way you can take care of this issue without bankrupting your prom fundYou may have to go before the school board with it, but your administrator should guide you in thatSo far as billing the junior college, they were guests of your classI don't see much you can do to hold them liable except to possibly reconsider inviting them next yearAs far as the damage to the elevator is concerned, if it turns out to be vandalism that was done while the two students were in the elevator, I'd contact the policePerhaps they would be fined for damages!
They have no case, you are not responsible for damage done to rescue human life from elevatorsI'd turn around and counter-sue for Post-Traumatic Stress and for whatever proper name is given for phobia of getting into elevators ( the college students that were rescued)Ask ( demand) all written records they have received in fixing the elevator and you may subpoena the maintenance records for itRight there they might totally buckle! If the elevator's problem was not caused by your party, than they can't be held liable for damages in being rescued from it ( Yeah they should of just put up some drapes and grabbed a bucket and called it home! Life's tough sometimes HA!)
If the lift broke down it wouldn't have been the students fault (unless too many people were crammed in?!?) They should have insurance to cover this should be having regular lift maintenance preformed on it to avoid situations like this arisingAs far as I am aware (unless you crammed too many people in/damaged the lift) you don't have to pay for it? As the property owners this is their problem, unless you signed a contract which makes you liable for damagesFind out what exactly they are charging you forFind out about there insurance/Maintenance checks etcmake sure they are keeping the lift to standards put in place by the governmentDon't think it's fair you guys get blamed for a malfunctioning lift!!!
Basting does nothing to make your turkey moist or dry - all it really does is grease the skin so that it browns nicelyIf you have a self-basting turkey (almost all frozen ones are), you really don't have to baste it - even for the skinIt oozes the juices that are injected so it self-bastesIf your turkey is dry - it's because it was cooked too longEven fresh turkeys (that are not usually self-basting) can be moist if not overcookedAnd self-basting turkeys can be dry if overcooked.
