Can manual chain hoists work at any angle? Like 40 degrees? I believe it can work at any angle (360 degrees).
In theory it should work. The problem is how to operate it from an inclined position, considering the weight of the chain hoist itself, and the angle of the load chain and hand chain relative to the operator's position. For a manual chain hoist the angles could make it tough or impossible to operate the hoist
looks like a chain hoist needs to be connected to a hook or something i think you may have a problem with some angles as it looks like some of the chains hang down if you had the hoist at an angle these hanging chains may tangle so I think the chain hoists are usually made for level at best or mostly vertical down and up hoisting
One of the most commonly used types of hoist worldwide is the Chain Hoist. Angle is much important you are dealing with a manual chain hoist.
No, they are restricted to angle of lift. If you mean other angles, such as anchor point, you need to contact the manufacturer.
As you say, if there is tension on all parts of all the chain it should work. When the hoist is used normally gravity provides the tension on the otherwise unloaded parts of the chain. I'm sure the manufacturer will recommend only vertical use because if tension is not maintained jamming (and maybe slipping with some designs) is possible.
