Question:

Is cement or dirt better for installing a wooden fence post?

I am installing a 3-foot wooden picket fence.

Answer:

Cement - pre-mixed in bags = just add water and mix in a plastic tub or 20 gallon container with hoe. Crushed rock. 3/4 or 1 Pole set foam, Kind of expensive
Use cement..Dirt over a very short period of time will make the entire fence section lean.
cement is much better, but it wont look as good as just putting it in the dirt. I had a fence at my old house, and we put the fence deep enough in the ground that it never decided to lean, it was very sturdy, and looked really nice. so i would recomend dirt, but cemment would work better if your not planning on putting it very deep in the ground.
Cementing the posts in the ground will hold longer. My Dad put up fencing all his life and this was his preferred method. He was always pointing out fences that he put up 20 or more years before.
use cement, dig hole,, put post in, put cement in, put water in, make sure its level done
