Question:

Is Copper going to be the next gold or silver Boom?

Really dont know why but i was wondering is copper going to be the next BIG gold or silver Boom

Answer:

Copper has already gone up and gone down. Copper has no investment value in terms of being a precious metal, it's value is for industrial use only. So there will never be a copper boom in the same sense as gold or silver.
Considering the bank will buy pennies by the pound and pay for copper vs giving you 1c per penny I would say maybe possibly. (Only if you have more than a handful of lbs. 100 pennies does not work.)
Let's see..when coins were valued for their metal content they made coins ot of gold, silver, and copper. Gold boomed. Silver boomed. Copper...didn't boom. Therefore, my incredible research and deductive reasoning skills tell me that means that copper is going to boom. Wow! If I post this as a question on YA, people will think I am really smart. Do you know how pathetic that is?
I doubt copper will ever reach gold or silver status/value. I read where something like 1/7th of the earth's surface contains copper. There's just too much of it to be all that valuable.
Turtles is correct, copper is a commodity. It doesn't have the same store of wealth quality that gold and silver to a lesser extent have and probably never will. The only way that copper is going to boom is if demand rises significantly and given that the Chinese housing market will probably crash in the next couple years, US new home construction won't rebound nearly enough to cover, and there aren't a lot of new industrial uses coming to market in the near future I don't see a boom anytime soon.
