I seem to recall some time ago, on history channel I beleive, where they mention that copper has good properties for storing water. Something about microbes in it or something. ANYWAY I was curious if copper was the best bet for metal for active water storage. Active storage being constantly in use and refilling from wind water well.
Copper is an excellent material to store water in. It has been used for over 100 years for piping in homes and outdoor water storage, but the rising cost of copper has lead many people to using plastic. It is cheaper and just as reliable to store water in as long as you make sure the plastic doesn't have BPA (Bisphenol A) a harmful chemical used in many plastics. Unless you have the money I suggest plastic, but otherwise yes copper is the best metal for water storage, it doesn't rust, or deteriorate as fast as other metals. As far as microbes, and other harmful organisms. Keep a cap on your storage tank to prevent outside contaminates, and use small amounts of chlorine to kill most harmful microbes. Make sure to do research for what types of chlorine to use for water storage.
