Question:

Is it a good idea to bracket a stand?

Hello, just wondering would it be a good idea to Bracket the sides of a JBJ Nanocube stand Mts-60?? also is it a good idea to put some kind of a foam between the tank and stand?? even though it is a perfect matching stand??

Answer:

You want all of the weight pushing down on the stand so putting foam is not a good idea. As for brackets the 28 gallon tank will weight about 300 lbs so unless you plan on really pushing and pulling on the stand I think you will be fine but if you think the 4 screws from the brackets can hold 300+lbs of weight from tipping over then go ahead and do it I wouldn't worry about it.
I cannot say specifically for your stand, but if the stand was designed for the tank you are using-then I would say NO dont use brackets as a way to reinforce the stand-you may void any warranty by altering the stand. As far as styrofoam goes, if the tank you are using has a plastic rim around the bottom of the tank than I wouldn't use styrofoam. If your tank is rimless than you should use styrofoam. Styrofoam will help to alleviate any slight discrepancies in the levelness the stand may have. Note: level stand first than add tank 1/3 full of water, than level again-shimming under the stand always-never under the tank. Hth
