I have a 2002 mitsubishi eclipse that needs a motor wire harness. I know there are lots of wires and all but I was gonna slide it through the fire wall and hook it up. I was wondering is there a site where I can get a wire diagram for my car so I can hook it up?
no in a word, its NOT easy the wiring is put in before the engine, and before the dash / interior and if its anything like my Volvo, theres 2 computers, and dozens of sensors and around 400 wires
The best thing to do is to lay out the new harness over the old one before taking it out. Most connectors on engine harnesses are color coded, and shape coded. If you match the shapes and colors it is almost impossible to get it together wrong.
You'd be ahead to get a new harness or one from a salvage yard, with all the connectors intact. The connectors on most cars can only connect one way, so it's hard to hook it up wrong. The biggest difficulty installing a harness is feeding through some tight spaces, like under the intake or other tight spots. Haynes manuals have wiring diagrams in them, they are less than $20 and can be ordered online or bought in a parts store.
Unless you had a major engine fire that burned many wires, why not just replace bad sections of the harness your replacing? Who says it needs a new wire harness? I'm just saying that you can do a lot of electrical wiring repair without replacing a multi-wire harness.
