We have ceramic tiles in the living room and kitchen. We would like to have wood floors in the living room and new ceramic tiles in the kitchen. Is it possible to do this without taking out the old ceramic tiles? The old tiles are in great condition with no cracks or loose tiles.

Yes it can be done, as for ceramic over ceramic, first you would have to skim over with a good flooring patch mixture to fill in everything, note, I say skim over, not a heavy patch job.
You should not attempt to apply new wood or laminate floors or ceramic tile over existing ceramic tile. The result will be uneven floors with breaking joints, cracked grout and a generally unprofessional appearance. Ceramic tile is not hard to remove; I generally use an old ice chipper. The adhesive may be a little more problematic but it can usually be chipped off reasonably smoothly. As a last resort you can always use a side grinder or rent a floor sander. Start your new floor with a clean, smooth and level surface and you will be much happier with your end result.
Yes you can. Most wooden floors come with a backing or underlay system. If your floors are level straight on will do if you have a slight drop between rooms you can use a ply underlay to level this section. For tiling over existing you may have to sand down the gloss/waxes to allow the glue to adhere. Most tile shops will put you on the right product available no matter which way you go. Good Luck
