Question:

is it safe to cover a combi boiler?

My local housing association are refurbishing our flats after decades of waiting but i have concerns that they are fully covering my vaillant combi boiler without fireproofing it first. Would i not be correct in saying that in any other property the front of any combi boiler would be left exposed with a 5mm gap around it. Is this just a cheap alternative for my L.H.O. to use and would it have an effect in my home contents insurance.

Answer:

as long as there is access for servicing it will be ok as it is a room sealed boiler. take it up with your landlords for peace of mind.
Fireproofing a Combi boiler is not necesary as there are too many safey devices built in to the boiler to prevent it ever catching fire. However the boiler has to be covered and it must leave enough space around the boiler for servicing, (removing side panels etc.)
