Question:

Is it safe to leave DVDs in a storage unit?

I am wondering if it is safe to leave DVDs in a storage unit for about a month during May/ June in the NortheastI am worried about them melting, what do people think?

Answer:

Leaving DVD's in a locked car COULD conceivably cause them to warp or partially melt due to heat, but in such a case, it would be from exposure to direct sunlightSuch sunlight would raise the surface temperature of the DVD higher than the temperature inside the carOther things that can cause DVD's to warp would be storage positionIf they are lying flat, warpage can occurAlso if heavy objects are stacked on top of them, it will contribute to damageIn an uninsulated tin or aluminum storage shed, such as those in someone's backyard, the sunlight again can cause higher temperature inside the shed than will escapeMost commercial storage units are somewhat insulated, so storing DVD's in proper cases, packing them on end, and placing no weight on top of them, I'd have no worry about keeping them in a storage facility.
