I have a very old round metal tub that my grandmother used to wash clothes in with a washboardI think it is made of a heavy aluminum, but I'm not sureWould this be safe to use for a backyard fire pit? If so, do I need to drill holes in the bottom or put a screen on the top?
I have used the inside liner (with the holes in it) of washing washing machines as a fire pit for over 15 years! They are GREAT for camping or just in the backyard and will last for YEARS even with the hottest of bonfires!! As far as the old wash tubs like you have they were mainly made of galvanized steel and will work for a few times but being so thin the heat will melt through after a few firesYou don't need any holes it'll get lots of air from the top.
you should use a crock pot slow cooker.
don't cook it at any temp over 350 I do 20 min a lb but i like a nice bloody beef 275 is the lowest id go for heat but it will take longer remember it still is cooking after you pull it out for i guess 15-20 min
take a large skillet season meat bronw all side pre cook vegies if any add beff broth to cover bake 350-375 til tender 1-2 hours or heat tha n put in crock pot 6-8 hours high 4 on low
I have two recipes I like: 1) put a roast in the crock pot add some salsa and cover with waterYou can also add some chopped peppers, onion and garlicLet cook on low for 8-10 hoursIt shredds right up and is perfect in a burrito, over rice or noodles2) tri-tip I put into a cast iron fry pan brown both sides and then put into the oven at 350 degress for 30 to 50 minutes depending on how rare you like the meat.
