I have a small leak in my water pump and my check engine light is on throwing a P0303 code and it appears the two might be related.
Bar's leak is not going to help! The other poster is correct, there is no way to seal a water pump, short of replacing it. And your P0303 is a cylinder # 3 misfire and is not related to your water pump. You did not provide the vehicle information, YMM (year, make, model) which is absolutely necessary when trying to diagnose a vehicle problem. NOTE: If the engine has been hot, you will also need to have a CO2 test performed on the vehicle to see if it is worth fixing!
Goofy cooling system sealers will not stop water-pump leaks. Think about it a minute! How can a cooling system sealer work on a moving water-pump in-put shaft, worn out bearing and leaking shaft seal? Apparently, you haven't read the complete list of the dozen or more causes of a P0303 code. The dealer of the car will be able to pinpoint the exact cause of the code.
As far as I know Bars stop leak will not work on a moving part like the seal on a water pump. This is an opportunity to have fresh anti freeze in your car. Get the water pump replaced and have the system drained and filled with fresh. Use a pre-mix or dilute regular antifreeze with distilled water. Many places have hard water which clogs radiators and heater cores. Take care that the system is bled of any air when refilled.. Anti freeze contains water pump lubricant for the seal. If it had been changed last year you may not have this expense now.
This Site Might Help You. RE: Is it safe to use Bar's Leaks Cooling System Water Pump Lube? I have a small leak in my water pump and my check engine light is on throwing a P0303 code and it appears the two might be related.
IF you've been running the car like that AND IF the car overheated then your P0303 IS related assuming the head gasket is blown at your #3 Cylinder. water /antifreeze will cause a misfire. as for the Bars leak thing. regardless if it seals or nor whatever amount not used to seal the WP will lodge somewhere else. Ask me how I know :-( if the car is salvageable don't wait, have it fixed. if you keep running the car like that you will cause more damage than what you can afford to fix later on. I have a car sitting in the driveway which used one of those engine block sealer(bad head gasket) the intake manifold water connector leading to the heater system was clogged up with the residual chemical not used to seal the head gasket, and must I say it did not worked. you might get away with it, but like I said the remaining product will end up somewhere else. your call.
