Question:

Is it safe to wash delicates in a copper sink bowl?

I want to put a copper sink bowl in a walnut counter top in my laundry room. It came from a wet bar. Will the copper and/or patina have any ill effects on my hand washables? It was a freebie and looks really nice. Do anyone see any problems with this idea?

Answer:

I would be concerned about the 'patina' coming off on my clothes. The oxidation on copper comes off fairly easily. It could stain your clothes. I would put the sink in another bathroom if you have the chance.
i think using the sink would be just fine. just be sure to keep it clean and keep an eye on it in case it starts to oxidize.
Remove the fuse until you can have them repaired.
I just have to say a couple of things here: First, I agree with rmb that Copper patina could stain your clothes if you wash them in a Copper sink, so you really don’t want to use the Copper sink. However…I also want to point out that Copper is NOT associated with Alzheimer's Disease. Aluminum is associated with Alzheimer's Disease. Big difference. In fact, Copper is a trace mineral that is absolutely necessary in the human body. We need it to function. We only need trace amounts, and most people enough from foods, but it does not hurt you in trace amounts and it certainly is not associated with Alzheimer's. -
