My house was recently inspected and I was told I would have to install a fire alarm in every room to follow building code.
I think that Skullcandy Hesh are better.
A friend and I had just moved in to our apartment and the landlord didn't mention it, but our smoke alarm was also hardwired and alerted the fire dept. So we got the surprise of a lifetime with 2 firetrucks showing up when we burned dinner. We were looking out the window to see where the fire was, and joking hey wouldn't it be funny if the neighbors called the fire dept. because they heard our smoke alarm? lol, the joke really WAS on us!
