Question:

Is my engine block aluminum?

I have a 98 Honda civic ex coupe and was wondering what type of metal the engine block is made of. I think it's aluminum because it has bad oxidation and I want to know if I can use an aluminum polish on it.

Answer:

I know that the head is maded of cast aluminum, but not totally sure about the engine block. Sorry i couldn't help you anymore then that.
You deffinately dont live in Phx,.Az. do you? Most of us here would never go Aluminum!!
since I cannot see your engine in person, a very simple test is to use a magnet. If the magnet sticks to the engine, you have an iron block. If you have an aluminun block the magnet will not stick. Enjoy
My 94 Civic has aluminum block. So I suspect you also have aluminum block. === I want to know if I can use an aluminum polish on it. that assumes you first need to grind away the pitting (oxidation). Good luck....... P.S. My block has the same problem.
