is there a additive i can add to engine oil that will eliminate smoking from tailpipe?

Answer:

NOT REALLY! the filter shoud clean things up for you, and it is NOT really like the old days of engines where sludge and coke would STOP the pump from working and jamb up the screen. You did the RIGHT thing by doing a SLUDGE removal and clean up. I use AMSOIL CRANKCASE CLEANER or B-G to do the job, B U T , switch over to SYNTHETIC oil. Get a full COOLING SYSTEM flush as well since the sludge can get in there, TOO! If the pan is EASY to get to, then FINE have it dropped. but the REAL problem is a dirty IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. And throttle body. AMSOIL POWER FOAM will get this showroom in SECONDS. If this is the 2.7 engine you MAY have some internal parts to change and improve. TOO BAD, it ruined CHRYSLERS image for a while. The JUNK yards have LOTS and LOTS of bad ones in crates. Use ALLDATA and NHTSA as a guideline for what to do. Just TYPE your car and engine type directly into NHTSA blanks. They will TELL you what has been recalled and why or what the most prominant issues with your car really are! The IAC vavle feint unes the engine as you drive by adding MORE air as required to make the O2 sensorss and converter happy! I cannot remember if oil burning on those things was due to RING issues or valve seal problems. NHTSA will know for SURE! I woudl consider getting rid of that car before it has ZERO worth,b ut that is just ME I guess. GOOD LUCK ANYWAYS!!
No, not really. All you can do it switch to a thick motor oil, like 20w-50. When oil gets hot it gets thin and then sneaks past worn out engine parts and it burned inside the engine thus causing smoke out the tailpipe. A thicker motor oil will thin less than a lighter weight oil. So a 5w-30 will thin faster and more than a 20w-50.
the reason that your engine is smoking is that parts of it are worn, the only thing you can do is to change your oil and use synthetic oil, it burns clear, no additive is going to work Its going to take some time to get all of the old oil out of your engine, change it drive 500 miles and do it again, aside from that you need valve work or new pistons or rings
