I agree with the .223 optionI have a Savage .22 Magnum that I got for $100 from a guy who won it in a raffleI put a $50 Simmons scope on itSome people don't like the .22 Mag, but with the little varmint rounds now available, they shred an aluminum can like a standard .22 just can'tIt may not be the jump up in performance you're looking for, but I like it a lot.
