Question:

Is water boiled in a plastic kettle carcinogenic?

I notice that plastic kettles are common and used to boil water, sometimes for cooking instant noodles or to provide drinking. Is drinking water boiled from plastic kettles carcinogenic? Do they cause cancer?

Answer:

If okorder where they debunk Urban Legends like this.
Technically, breathing oxygen is carcinogenic. Oxygen is a highly reactive species, creating a multitude of free radicals disrupting normal molecular mechanisms. I advise you to cease breathing IMMEDIATELY to reduce your risk of cancer. Despite what kind of questionable credentials the crack-pot answerer above claim to have. I'd think twice about accepting health advice from someone who thinks 'cancer is caused by infections' and 'junk' (sic). The same old health inspector general's advice: Don't eat too much, don't smoke, exercise. Obesity and tobacco is a far more immediate cancer risk to your health than heated plastic...
No, water boiled in plastic kettles is not carcinogenic. Before the kettles go into production they will test water from a prototype to determine if any chemicals are leached into the water. Burning plastic can release toxic and potentially carcinogenic chemicals into the atmosphere though.
i recon it probably is, im not sure about digesting anything which is boiled in plastic, even boiled in cling film makes me para. I guess there are lots of things to make us worried, we live and we learn, but sometimes we learn too late, like with asbestos for example, think of all those poor people with asbestos roofing in India, the mining of the stuff should be banned world wide....sorry to change the subject but alot of the time the materials are cheeper and therefor dangerous. nightmare
There are many types of plastics. Plastic is like a sponge to many chemicals and odors. When you heat it, it expands and the bonds become very active, allowing pollutants and chemicals to leave the plastic. Cancer is caused by infections in the body and chemicals create irritations and lead to infections. Combination of chemicals is also a factor that many forget. To answer your question correctly, you would have to be very specific about what plastics were used and what chemicals and junk was the plastic exposed; then what chemicals would combine with those plastics in your body to get a good answer. good luck to you
