How much do you think a Kirby Vacuum cleaner goes for in 2008. I had a retailer come to my house and gave me a godawful price..i want to see if his price matches yoursJohn J M
Rip off! Invest in a central vac or even better an iRobot Roomba.
I am sure there is a better vacuum for a lot less than he is asking. The salesman starts out at a high price and as you hesitate, he/ she will gradually lower the price. They work for the insane profit on the vacuum, but will come down in price to seal a deal.
Kirby has a God awful price. IMO they are not worth it. They seem to last till the warrantee expires and then something goes wrong. I have had one new and one rebuilt. The rebuilt was about 1/2 the price and was the better of the two. Each lasted about 3 years. No more Kirby's for me.
We bought a used '94 Kirby in 1996. We paid $400. for it. I like the powerful suction, but it also comes with drawbacks. The following are my opinions about this Kirby: 1. I don't like the cost of replacing the filters (they're about $8. a bag and only have 3 bags in a package. 2. It's not easy to change from vacuum to using the hose. 3. It's kind of heavy and bulky and doesn't maneuver easily. In my opinion, it's not worth it. You can purchase a bagless Dyson for around $500. and they work great. Does the $1800. price include all of the attachments? Do you need all those attachments? Are all the bells whistles worth $1800.?
There is not a set price for a Kirby. The salesman pays a set price but is free to charge as much or little as he thinks he can get. They usually start asking for about $1600. They are not worth it. Neither is Rainbo. A Royal Commercial is very similar to the Kirby but in my opinion better made. And half the price. If you want a good vacuum go to a janitorial supply. Be prepared though. They still are not cheap. But Commercial will last and do a better job. I can't stand Kirby.
