Question:

liming a lake to neutralize acid rain?

Liming a lake to neutralize acid rain in it could seriously affect the availability of nutrients such as phosphate and molybdate, but not nitrate. Explain.

Answer:

Lime will change the ph of the soil. If you have very very acidic soil, lime will help make it more alkaline. If your soil is base to alkaline, lime will make it even MORE alkaline, which would hurt them. Roses like ph between 6.0 and 6.9. So don't add lime unless you KNOW your ph is 5.9 or lower.
