Magnesium Carbonate is a principle ingredient in the naturally-occurring and very common stone called Dolomite. (Look it up in pedia.) Dolomite occurs everywhere, so it would be hard to argue that it has a serious negative environmental consequence. It my have a positive one in that, when it forms, it permanently traps CO2.
