Question:

Meal ideas for mountain cabin?

Next month, my husband and I, along with our daughter and son-in-law, are going on vacation and will be staying a week in a secluded cabin in the mountains of ColoradoWe're going to be busy coming and going to various attractions and outings, but I would like to cook some wonderful yet very simple mealsThe cabin is stocked with all the necessary pots and pans and oven, etcI'd like to get ideas on some quot;lodge-yquot; comfort foods, including breakfasts and suppers that my daughter and I can prepare(But quick and simple as possible!)Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Answer:

RubbishI've had the same Rambo rug for my mare for well over 10 years and it's perfectly fineOnce the rug is of a good make you shouldn't need to replace it unless it has been damaged, even at that they can be repaired, the only thing you will need to do is have them cleaned the odd timeYou will also need a spare rug anyway in case of one becoming damp, such as for a horse on turn outAs for summer rugs, it's not necessary to blanket your horse in the summer if you do not wish toThere is no need to go about replacing rugs every year, she must have money to burnIf they are wearing out quickly she's not buying good quality.
You do sometimes have to replace blankets, but if you spend the money to get high-quality ones then they'll last longer than you'd thinkSome horses do destroy blankets because they get excited, but buying the strongest ones you can find will help prevent the blankets wearing downYour friend is probably just trying to sound cool, but the next time she says that you should set her straightTell her that she's a moron for spending so much money on things she already has/
Load of rubbish! I have blankets here that are probably older than youI have indoor ones for the horses that are in work, they are clippedEach horse had a cotton sheet, if it is cold I have a duvet on top of that and then their rugThey all have an outdoor blanketI do have a change around so if the indoor rugs get very dirty then they can be washed but generally that is all they have and the cotton sheets are fine for the summer if I need to use themYou friend has more money than sense and has obviously never heard of a needle and thread for repairs! Quite honestly I have never had any complaints from the horses that I have patched their rug and it doesn't matchWhen I do I will tell them to like it or lump itLOL
I would do your standard bacon eggs but then also do pancakes, hot and cold cereals, french toast for breakfast with fresh foods For lunch, definitely sandwiches on fresh crusty bakery bunsPut your cold cut meats, cheeses, sliced lettuce and tomato and buns, dressings out on the counter and help yourselves! Easy and everyone loves it! For dinner, do a nice oven stew with stewing beef, carrots and potatoesGrab a frozen lasagna for a great dinner - throw in some garlic bread and get a salad in a bag and you're set! For an incredible chicken dinner, get a whole chicken, remove the giblets, wash with cold water and season with salt and pepperEnjoy half of a canned beer then shove the half full can up the chicken's you know what and stand it like a tripod with the can and legs and put it in a baking pan at 375 for an hour and 40 min - 2hoursThis will be the juiciest most delicious tasting chicken you will ever taste! Serve with carrots and baked potato that you put in at the same time as the chicken! Other ideas - fish and minute rice, pasta and meat sauceDo you have a BBQ? If so, bring some burgers, steaks, etc and enjoy! Sounds like you will be having yourselves an incredible time! Be sure to bring mosquito repellent!
What a load of horse manure she's talking! Maybe she hasn't heard of washing them or mending themMy horse is lucky enough to have 7 rugs/blankets for all yearHe's in and out like a yo-yo - so 1) A light summer sheet 2) A light waterproof for spring/summer/autumnWhen it's a bit chilly and looks like showers3) A light indoor rug for when nights are getting chilly 4) A medium weight waterproof with neck cover 5) A heavyweight indoor rug for cold nights 6) A REAL heavyweight, with neck and does up under his tummy too7) A good sized fleeceIf you are not sure what to buy get for the winter, buy a good thick waterproof for outdoors and a nice warm one for in his boxYou can also have a duvet as spare to double up on thinner rugs as long as you get a surcingle to hold it in place Your would be horse won't care two hoots what he looks like or what colour he's wearingAs long as the rugs fit properly and are warm, he'll be fineYou don't need blankets at all, they are very 1960's when that's all we had to put under a jute rug.
