Question:

Motor is old craftmen garage door opener, I quess AC electric?

it has 3 wires coming out, what are they for?

Answer:

If one of the wires is green or has a green stripe, it could be a ground wire. If there is not a box on the side of the motor with a capacitor inside, one of the wires could be for connecting a capacitor. I would think that a garage door opener motor would be reversible. That should require 4 wires. If you knew the model number of the opener, its approximate age, the colors and relative sizes of the wires, and/or something about what was in the Craftsman control box you might have a better chance of figuring this out. It would also help to have a multimeter and know how to use it.
Two are for the AC power and one is for the ground, Im guessing. If they are very light guage wire it could be for some sort of remote, but since its old who knows. Any pics?
