there are 2 main types: snaffle and leverage bits snaffles are generally a simple mouth piece (broken, twisted, straight across, etc.) The reins hook on right to the side of the snaffle and pressure is applied directly to the mouth. Leverage bits are stronger and have more control. They have a mouth piece, and the sides of the bit have length and the reins connect to the bottom of the side. They also have a curb chain, so when you pull the reins the curb tightens.
