Here is a drywall product designed for sound control. Egg cartons are just so ugly.
Without a major renovation job, an old cheap method of sound proofing is to use the large 50+ softcardboard egg trays, fixed like wall and ceiling tiles to function all the wall & ceiling surface must be covered, as well as the back of the door.
