Question:

My boiler furnace has been squeaking / squealing for a couple of days. Can I oil it?

It's a New York Boiler model 660-2. Don't know how old. It squeals while the boiler's running and also when it's not. But it does stop squealing occasionally. The noise is coming from a motor on the outside of the unit, at about waist height. I can see it turning inside, through the vents. Does it just need oil? can I dribble oil through to where I see it turning? Or is it possibly a belt? What then? Thanks.

Answer:

to the guy who reported your brakes have a squeal gadget geared up. it really is utter bollox. (please dont remark in case you'll lie) in case your brakes positioned on right down to a squeal you've thoroughly wiped out the brake pads and the calipers are scoring the discs.(no longer sturdy). it sounds to me like your fan belt desires tightening. or it may actual be the brakes. attempt some anti squeal grease. also in case your vehicle has a brake pad positioned on sensor it is going to light up a mild on your sprint. yet you won't be able to position self belief in this as maximum pads dont positioned on flippantly there are 2 pads one in the front and one behind the disc. the sensor is behind. if the front pads positioned on in the previous the rear you'll not in any respect recognize in the previous this is to late. my suggestion is to get it regarded at. asap. brake pads are more less expensive than discs by technique of particularly a lot. and in case you go away it squealing and this is the caliper touching the disc you chance welding the caliper to it seizing your brakes and dealing in to a huge bill on the mechanics.
Spray it with WD40.
check the motor housing for one or two little oil ports and use 30 weight oil. if you have hot water. and an older type circulation pump, add some oil to the reservoir too...once a year
the problem sounds like it is in the circulator if that's the case and you tried oiling the bearing assemby and motor and it still makes a noise look at the spring or coupling (connects the motor to the boiler piping)if it looks like it is all connected the same way all the way around not scraping on the housing then the problem might be the motor mounts if that's the case it is so much easier replacing the circulator with a new water lubricated circ then it is the motor mounts est $35.00 part plus you will never need to oil the new one
