Question:

my car alarm wont stop going off!?

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima and ever since I took it to the car wash the alarm has been triggering on it‘s own. I stopped locking my car to avoid the alarm from going off due to a slight breeze! It worked for a while but today it was pouring rain and the alarm started sounding AGAIN. I didn‘t even lock it tonight and it still went off with no provocation. Has anyone had this problem? Is it being triggered by water? I‘m afraid my neighbors will have me arrested (or put a hit out on me) if I can‘t get this problem solved. I‘m not looking forward to a sleepless night, waking up every 30 minutes to turn off my alarm. The only alarm I want to hear is the one I set for the AM! Help!

Answer:

The alarm system should have its own fuse. If you find your cars fuse box and take out the fuse that goes to your alarm system it will shut it off, and cut power directed from your battery to it. The hard part is finding the fuse box and knowing which fuse is which. I'd try searching for an electrical layout of your car, find out where the fuse box is, and which fuse is the alarm. Then simply remove the fuse and remove the problem.
could be a number of things but could be the door lock actuators not working right, also the remote might be acting up if you got it wet during the car wash. If that is the case then remove the batteries from the remote and see what happens. I am not sure of all the sensing devices on the car but I hear that model has problems. I know that doesn't help. This will disable it forever though The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS orange/blue |-| on pin 30 at the SECU. |- negative polarity|. The SECU (Smart Entrance Control Unit) is located to the passengers side of the steering column. Once Located, splice into this wire with a simular guage wire, and put it to a solid chassis ground. This terminates the OEM alarm functions entirely. If you could find the sensor that is causing the problem would be better. Sound to me like the shock sensor which might have an adjustment on it. They usually just have a spring inside that moves around when car is vibrated by the wind etc. So adjusting the tension causes it to be more or less sensitive. Not sure if your model is adjustable or not. look in the service manual for your car, like the kind you get at the auto parts store and locate the sensor that way. Only if of course it is factory installed. The book should indicate location of all sensors etc. If you disable the whole system then replace it with an aftermarket system of similar security, and dont scrimp on what it can do. the extra remotes you dont need but value you do.
