Question:

My cat destroyed my second sofa.?

My cat keep destroying furnitures. Could anybody help me? I live in a falt without a yard.

Answer:

I agree with jljoanie...get some cat furniture. They're called condos, trees, towers, but are basically the same thing. If you get a large one, they can really have a field day playing on it. They can jump, climb, stretch and since they have scratching posts built into them (usually made of sisal these days, which cats seem to love) they will scratch there instead. There's also a product called Sticky Paws that you can get at most pet stores. It's double-sided tape that you put on the spot/spots they are scratching and when they touch it, they hate it. So, put the Sticky Paws on places you don't want him to scratch and get him some cat furniture.

Here are your options: 1. Declaw the cat. There is a new LASER procedure which is LESS painful, LESS bloody, and they recover sooner. 2. Soft Claws. They are small pieces of plastic that you glue onto the nails. Of course, when the nail sheds off, you must replace them. 3. Double-sided tape. Put double-sided tape on the area he/she is clawing. They do not like the sticky feeling. 4. Be sure to place a scratching post (impegnated with catnip as an attractant) right in front of the sofa where he/she scratches. It is a physical barrier, and hopefully, the cat will learn to scratch the post (in the proper place) and not the sofa. You can slowly move the post away from the sofa over several days. 5. Spike pads ... sounds worse than it is!!! They are plastic pads with small plastic spikes (NOT SHARP, but the cat does not like walking on it nor laying down or sitting or standing on the spikes) and this is a physical barrier to the cat being ON the sofa. Of course, if he/she does not scratch while ON the sofa, place the mat on the floor near where he/she stands to do his/her scratching. See links below for the specific items I am referring to. Me… kittyslave23… I know my place.
DO NOT declaw it is incredibly harmful to them. Try double sided tape it worked really well for me. You just put it over the clawed spots and your cat won't like the stickiness.
well, declawing is definitely not a good option, the declawing operation is in fact the amputation of each of the cat’s toes at the first joint. It involves cutting of the front part of a cat’s toes and means cutting through nerves and muscles and removing bone. This operation is extremely painful (it has been proven to be much more painful than sterilizing or spaying your cat) and it will take a long time to heal www.google .uk/url?sa=tsource=... if the cat have the laser surgery, it would still not be good to get a cat declawed. Even after the wounds have healed, the cat may suffer from a series of after-effects.cats need their claws for balance and also use it to hook their paws on surfaces and stretch themselves. This stretching forms a very important part of the cat’s exercise and muscle toning. also cats can develop behavioral problems after declawing . your cat may develop a fear for it's litterbox, because scratching in the litter may be painful and so your cat could refuse to use the litter box. also, this way cats loose one of their biggest source of self defence and the cat could then revert to using it's teeth to protect itself and can start to bite people when feeling threatened.many cats actually start hissing and showing agressive behaviour after declawing there's an easy solution, you could buy a cat nail clipper from the pet shop and clip your cat's nails weekly or get it nail caps .soft paws is a great option , it should work so give it a try www.google .uk/url?sa=tsource=... also, do make sure your cat has a scratching post :) good luck i starred:)
