Question:

My cat loves plastic bags!!!!?

Is it ok for cats to chew on (and swallow) parts of plastic bags?

Answer:

No, not a good idea. They would have a terrible time digesting that! I would get some toys intended for cats, and keep all plastic bags away.
You shouldn't let your cats chew or swallow parts of plastic bags because it can cause intestinal blockages which can cost you your cat's life and alot of money in vet bills. Don't give it yarn or string either as mentioned above for the same reason . You could buy some cat toys, but throw them away when they start to tear or fall apart. Some cats will eat anything that is small enough for them to swallow. I have seen cats that had to have sewing needles and puzzle pieces surgically removed so don't leave things lying around either ... I wouldn't recommend giving it anything but cat toys.
No--plastic bags and lodge in the intestine-- string and foil and thread, bows and ribbon and tin foil or plastic foil can lodge in their throats with deadly or very painful consequences, and can also cut open their intestines. Plastic bags can also suffocate. Plastic bags are also very dangerous. Please buy them SAFE cat toys that will not come apart in their mouths when they play with them or chew on them -- SUPERVISE them when theyplay with ANy cat toy that could possibly harm them in any way -- and put away their cat toys when they are not playing with them.
NO it's not good for for your cat to eat plastic bags. There are specially made cat toys called crinkle sacks (or something like that) so if your cat also likes to play in the plastic bag, you could get one of those for your cat to play with and then it won't be so mad at you for taking away the real plastic bag.
Not an expert, but doesn't sound like it is a good idea to let the cat do that. Maybe you should take the cat to the vet or ring and ask the vet to make sure there is no need for getting the cat checked out. Cats like boxes - maybe you could give the cat an appropriatley sized box, or a toy on some yarn or something else to do instead. Maybe the cat is hungry or missing out on some trace elements or something like that? If you know why the cat eats the bags, that might help too (might be a stupid thought, but it is not hungry, is it?). The vet might have heard of this before and know some good ways of addressing this. Another thought is, get paper bags or use some of the green reusable shopping bags instead. Good luck.
