Question:

My friend gave me a coat that smells of cigarette smoke. How can I remove the smell safely?

My friend‘s mother smokes and the smell came with the coat. The coat is made of 100% polyvinylchloride (shell) with a 100% Polyester lining. It can‘t be washed or dry cleaned, only wiped with a damp cloth.

Answer:

Take a box of your favorite incenseput that and the coat into a drawer or enclosed area for a few days. Soon enough, the coat should be smelling like incense instead of cigarettes. Now, if you hate incense, I don't know what to say. And, now you'll have a coat that smells of incense. But at least it's not the cig smell! You may also be able to have it cleaned in some way - try asking your neighborhood dry cleaner. They may be able to try something [other than standard dry cleaning].
This has happened to me also. I turned the jacket inside out and hung it up outside all day, with the wind blowing, then put it in my bathroom overnight (after I showered so it was moist in there) and the next day left it outside all day on a hangar again and when I brought it in the smell was gone. It smelled kind of musty, but then I sprayed it with my favourite perfume and wore it and after a couple of wearings it didn't smell of anything except faint smell of my favourite perfume. Good luck with whatever you try! I know ciggie smoke is very hard to get out of everything, and smokers never seem to be able to smell it!!

First off, look at the coat very carefully. Look at the stitching and/or decorations. Do you think it can be washed? How about dry cleaned? Do you have gentle settings on your washer? Maybe you can wash it and let it air dry. When in doubt, don't do it! I'd give it a try though. I wash my daughters coat and its still beautiful.
it sounds perfect except the grapes part
