Question:

My necklace fell down my bathroom sink..?

I am just wondering if it will clog anything.. I don't really care that the necklace is lost because it wasn't very expensive but I just don't want the necklace to mess up anything. I REALLY don't want to open all the pipes and stuff either, messy job. Notice that this is the whole necklace, it was just a silver chain with a cross..So is there any harm in leaving the necklace in the drain?

Answer:

It should be okay if it went all the way through to the drain thing. But if it got stuck, it could start a build up. Try not to drop anything else. Except water.
Fish it out with a coat hanger or wire down to the trap under the sink. That U shaped pipe is where it is and where it will stay. It will collect hair and stuff and clog the pipe.
Actually, considering that most people get ready for the day in front of bathroom mirrors over a sink, no. You will find that after time your drain is not draining as well. This will be due to the hair that falls down the drain and becomes entangled in the necklace and cross. Over time is will become a huge hair ball that clogs the drain. It would be easier and cheaper just to make a mess and remove it now. There are instructions for this easy task all over the Internet.

Depending on how large it is, it will accumulate hair and debris and could cause the sink to plug up eventually. However, this might not happen for a while. You could attempt to use a piece of wire, bend the end into a hook, and try and fish around down in the drain to pull it out. This can get tedious fast but it has worked for me before. Removing the trap from under the sink (the u-shaped piece of tube at the bottom) should be neither difficult nor too terribly messy. They are designed to come out with a simple pipe wrench. Some even have a small threaded drain the the bottom and you could try and fish it out that way. Once it starts to accumulate gunk and slow the drain you will have to get it out anyway. Better to do it now when it will be relatively simple than later when it could be a massive clog.
