Question:

My smoke alarm wouldn't stop going off. I got so frustrated that I cut the wires. Is this bad? And how much wi?

Will my apartment complex charge me?

Answer:

The rubber isn't going to cut it, but you MIGHT be able to TEMPORALLY use metal compression fittings if the pipe is not too large.
HmmmWhen I was on patrol the other day, my patrol car put out about .wait. I'm a cop not a fireman. Why would I know anything about a firetruck? Stupid me, I must be in the wrong section. Sorry man, I couldn't resist. They should add a fire department section. I see alot of questions in here on the subject. I imagine the only reason they don't is for liability when little arsonists get on here trying to figure out better ways of setting fires ; )
According to the link below this means there would be 7.1 hits a year within 1KM^2 in a temperate zone. As far as I am concerned anything that sticks up above nearby things is asking for it. However if it is a metal tower this helps. A lightning rod with a heavy conductor well grounded is the goal. This is probably part of the local codes for the tower. Note the blades etc will pick up considerable charge and should be grounded, even if through a high resistance, so they discharge. Often the hub attachment achieves this anyway. Lightning protection is not straight forward, but is about trying to minimise the damage.
