Question:

Do old-fashioned TV sets contain lenses in any part of their machinery?

nan

Answer:

I dont believe so. I think that they have a really thick glass.
By old-fashioned are you referring to the cathode ray tube? If so it does not use lenses in reference to being able to focus the picture. Websearch cathode ray tub how it works and you'll get a ton of links and illustrations.
Never had a TV until I was about 13 and we used to have to put money in a slot! When I was in lodgings at 17yrs old, I used to plug the iron in the light socket as the landlady wouldn't let us use her electricity lol Edit: Sara Derosa The internet is open to all, not just young people. Your answer shows your ignorance.

Really thick glass is a lense, so yes they do. Old TVs (not LCD or Plasma) work by shooting electrons through a Vacuum Tube. Electro-magnets then change the frequency of the electron waves to make different colors. It is then projected onto the screen that you see when it turns on. This is why magnets make Vacuum Tube TVs look funny.
