I agree that you need to check the label firstObviously, you're not going to want to wash a hand wash only yarn in your washing machine, etcIf you're worried about bleeding, you can often just soak the yarn in the sink and agitate it a bit, leave it in there a while and change the water periodicallly until the water remains clean (the excess die will soak off and dye the water)You can also take off the band, loosen the skein up a little bit and wash it in a lingerie bag if it's machine washable.
